How to Make Your Visit Less Stressful for Your Cat

The old days of grabbing a cat and shoving it into a pillowcase are, hopefully, behind us.  Making your cat's visit a happy event starts with advance planning.

     1.  Get a hard plastic carrier that easily opens from the top and is large enough that your cat won't feel cramped inside it.    Put a soft towel on the bottom for comfort.  Hard plastic is especially nice if, by accident, your cat pees.  It saves you a smelly car seat.

****Hint!  Keep a carrier for each cat on hand in case of evacuation for hurricanes.  It is easier to find one before everyone else panics.

    2.  Leave the carrier out, putting toys, food treats or catnip inside it.  You will slowly teach your cat that the carrier is not a fearful place.

   3.  Take your cat for short trips to get it acclimatized to car travel.

Following these steps will make your veterinary visit less of an ordeal and more of a trip to visit friends.
